Otter Breads has very good sourdough!

Do you like real bread? ?‍♀️

There is a place for soft, commercial bread, but there is nothing like the bite and heartiness of real, artisanal bread!

Otter Breads

My foodie friends Bianca and Paula were finding it difficult to find bread to their liking during this prolonged quarantine, so they decided to try their hand at making their own. And so, Otter Breads was born!

They sent over their 16-hour Sourdough (my fave) and their Tablea-infused Sourdough.

I love how the sourdough has a happy smiley! 😀

The sourdoughs have a tough crust, but a soft and chewy interior. It’s better to use a bread knife to slice the breads. Sometimes the crust is too tough (but thin) and you might need scissors, but I was able to slice them with just a bread knife.

When they arrived, I ate them as is. Don’t let the name sourdough scare you — the bread isn’t actually sour. There is just a hint of sourness, just enough to give the bread some depth of flavor so it won’t taste bland, but it is not sour. Most people don’t notice it. It tastes like bread 🙂

Also, sourdough is healthier than regular bread, because the longer process to make it makes it easier for us to digest and makes it less likely to spike sugar levels.

These were good fresh, but then I discovered that toasting them makes them 100% better! I kept the leftovers in a ziploc bag so that they won’t dry out (they didn’t, even after a few days in the fridge).

I served them again with some sausages and onions. I just toasted the bread in the same pan after I cooked the sausages, to there’s only one pan to clean!

The breads get easier to slice. When they first arrived, I had difficulty slicing them into thinner slices and had to settle for 1-inch thick slices. After a few days in the fridge, I was able to slice them as thin as commercial tasty bread so that they would fit in the bread toaster!

So now my favorite way to eat them is to toast them until the edges are nice, brown and crispy. Biting on them gives a wonderful crunch, from crispy to soft chewy, that I never, ever got from commercial bread.

I love slathering the toasted slices with my homemade cheese pimiento, or with a jam and butter combo! Other friends recommended the bread with wine & cheese, but I’m happy with my cheese pimiento 😀

Otter Breads is in Las Pinas, so it’s difficult for me to get them as often as I’d like. But if you live nearby, you’re in luck!
