Curry Crab with Crab Fat! Crab Dreams are Made of These!

Spread the Love!

Is really good crab your weakness?

Mine, too!

For my birthday, I was dreaming of some curry crab, and I’d heard of this sinful Mud Crab with Coconut Curry and Crab Fat Sauce from Ang Kusinero / MNL Food Co.

So when the family asked what I wanted to order for my birthday, I immediately answered “Curry Crab!”

Ang Kusinero

Ang Kusinero, the gourmet specialties brand of MNL Food Co, is a delivery-based food purveyor based in New Manila. Within a couple of years, they have gained a loyal following from elite food aficionados, have been frequently featured on Tatler’s & Spot.PH’s food lists, and are frequent go-to’s of top-tier foodie influencers like @shootfirsteatlater and @fooddudeph for their own celebrations.

Ang Kusinero is primarily known for their roasting specialties like their porchetta (aromatic roasted pork belly), cochinillo (amazingly crunchy baby lechon that’s so tender, you can literally cut it up with a plate), and their Hong Kong-style roast goose and Peking-style roast duck. They have their own special brick ovens just for roasting these!

Mud Crab with Coconut Curry and Crab Fat Sauce

While Ang Kusinero’s bestselling porchetta and cochinillo are really good (I also like their Kare-kare where they use porchetta as the meat), their Curry Crab has got to be my favorite!

Being friends with the owner, a former chef at a well-known 5-star hotel, has its benefits (because I am often enlisted to taste test new dishes). I have tried many dishes from Ang Kusinero and this Curry Crab is my favorite! Haha, I said it twice, but it’s true. It’s a close fight between this crab and their US Angus Roast Beef Belly (improved recipe that tastes amazing!!!).

The mud crab meat is sweet, texture is good (not mushy nor watery) and the curry sauce with crab fat is what dreams are made of. The flavor is balanced – not too sweet, not too spicy, but extremely flavorful – and decadently sinful with all that crab fat. It is worth all the cholesterol, LOL. Seriously!

I’ll let the video speak for itself!

I do wish they had included more sauce that we can mop up with extra rice 😀

Price is P2,500. Pricing is on the premium side, but the brand serves the upscale market and they use the best ingredients (no shortcuts). So worth the splurge though for special occasions. Since the owner used to work at a 5-star hotel as chef, the level of quality is the same or better.
