Jolly Claro Palm Oil Review

Cooking oil is one of those household staples where we try to get the best bang for the buck. We want a cooking oil that is healthy, mild-tasting and also light on the pocket!

I was recently sent some Jolly Claro Palm Oil to try, so, of course, I had to fry up some of my favorite curry puffs!

We bought packs of these frozen samosas and curry puffs during the Landers sale last June when they were on 50% off, and when I am looking for something easy to cook as an additional side dish / appetizer for our meals, these have been what I reach for, because they do not need to thaw!

JOLLY CLARO PALM OIL REVIEW

Jolly Claro Palm Oil is a yellow colored oil made from the fruit of the oil palm. In its virgin form, the color is orange-red because of its high beta-carotene content.

Upon opening my bottle of Jolly Claro Palm Oil, what I noticed immediately was that there was hardly any smell at all! You know how other vegetable oils have an oily smell? Jolly Claro doesn’t have that “oil” smell. In fact, I could only smell a very, very faint “raw carrot” smell that must be from the beta-carotene. But unless you make an effort to notice the smell, Jolly Claro Palm Oil practically doesn’t have any smell at all.

Jolly Claro isn’t very viscous (hindi malapot), but it’s pure oil. When the oil was heating up, it didn’t bubble nor cause any splatter. When the oil reached medium high heat, I gently put in my frozen curry puffs.

I fried 3 batches of frozen curry puffs. I had to fry them a little bit longer because they were frozen, to make sure that the inside was also heated through.

Throughout the whole frying process, I paid attention to the oil, and Jolly Claro really did not produce any off aromas. Even though I fried the curry puffs too long and produced some burnt flour at the bottom, I couldn’t smell nor taste any burnt flavor. The excess flour burned, but the oil did not burn nor smoke.

Upon tasting the curry puffs, the curry puffs tasted like curry puffs and didn’t taste oily nor greasy! I didn’t even have to put paper towels on the plate to drain the oil! The curry puffs did not have any taste of heavy oil compared to if I was using other brands of vegetable oil.

Jolly Claro Palm Oil is cholesterol-free and does not solidify easily when refrigerated (no sebo taste). It resists oxidation – there’s no undesirable series of chemical reactions involving oxygen that degrades the quality of an oil. It has an equal portion of saturated & unsaturated fat (OMEGA 3) – oils that have an equal proportion of saturated and unsaturated fats are best because these are the most stable at high heat point. It has a high content of Vitamin A & antioxidants.

Jolly Claro Palm Oil is available at leading supermarkets. I checked online, the price is P89 for 1 liter, and P165 for 2 liters.
