Alimango House Chavacano Curry Crab

These crabs are so good that I literally felt compelled to get some rice to mop up the remaining sauce ?

ALIMANGO HOUSE BY RED CRAB

We recently tried some new flavors from Alimango House by Red Crab and they are excellent!

Our orders were packed very well so there was no spillage of any the sauces. It took a bit of effort to unwrap, though ;D

Chavacaco Curry Crab

The first flavor was Chavacano Curry Crab (2 x 500g crabs is P1,850). The sauce, the sauce, the luscious sauce! The curry sauce was rich with coconut cream and just the right amount of curry to make it uber-flavorful but not overpowering. The curry is so balanced that the only thing that registered to me was that it was delicious! There was no one spice or flavor that stood out or was too strong that made me take notice. It’s not maanghang (hot spicy), for those who don’t like spicy food. I’m sure there was a bit of chili, but honestly, it didn’t even register – that’s how good this sauce is. The sum is waaaaaay better than its parts!

I highly recommend getting this if you like creamy, savory, sweet curry flavors. Of course, I couldn’t let any sauce go to waste — I just HAD TO get rice to mop up ALL the remaining sauce! ?

Ms. Bea’s Crab Beehoon

The other flavor we got was Ms. Bea’s Crab Beehoon (2 x 500g crab for P1,850). This flavor was also very good, and was the pick for those at home who preferred more delicate flavors. It’s reminiscent of the famous Singapore Crab Bee Hoon. Even if we can’t fly to Singapore any time soon, we don’t have to feel like we’re missing out!

The crabs are fat and juicy, the crab meat is fresh and sweet!

The sauce is packed separately – just pour the sauce over the crab beehoon! The sauce is milky, with a very light ginger flavor to offset the seafood. The flavor of the Crab Beehoon is light (but not bland!). Most of the family members actually preferred the Crab Beehoon if they are forced to choose between the two. Although they said that both are really good! They told me to take note because they want to order these again for our next celebrations!

Alimango House actually has 5 new flavors you can try:

  1. Chavacano Curry Crab

Alimango cooked in ginger, turmeric, fresh gata, and other spices. A slightly sweet and gently spiced “localized” crab curry

Alimango sauteed in olive oil, local rum, tuyo, tinapa, galunggong, chilis, plus cherry tomatoes and garlic chips. Served with salted-egg ensalata and atchara

  1. Toasted Coconut Crab

  1. Bea’s Beehoon Crab

Our version of a Singaporean classic: mud crab and rice noodles in flavorful garlic-ginger broth with creamy milk

  1. Red Crab Sarsuela

Spanish-style stew of alimango and the freshest seafood cooked in shrimp broth, fresh tomatoes, herbs, and chorizo

More About Red Crab

I loved Red Crab and ate at the Greenbelt branch when I worked in Makati (during bonus time, haha). My favorite was the garlicky Crab Maritess, which I only tried because it was highly recommended by the staff. See? I never forgot the name of the dish, even years later.

And today I learned that Crab Maritess came about when Maritess Revilla-Araneta asked the kitchen to have her mud crab cooked the way she liked it – with olive oil, garlic and chillies.

“Red Crab Seafood & Steaks” opened its doors at its original Clark location in July of 1998. Chiqui Eusebio, the restaurant’s matriarch, recounts starting with just a handful of crab dishes from her own personal recipes. The original bestsellers were Szechuan Crab and Crab Adobo.

The original concept eventually evolved into what is now the “Red Crab Alimango House.” “Alimango House” celebrates the superiority of our local mud crab over other varieties: the meat is sweeter and the roe, more glorious! And there are more specialty dishes in the menu to enhance and elevate the wonderful seafood bonding moments with loved ones.

SUMMARY

Both flavors were awesome! But I love a good, creamy curry, so the Chavacano Curry Crab is really something that now lives in my ultimate food list and is something we will definitely order again!
