Tempura and Tendon aficionados from the Pasig/Ortigas area can now enjoy Japan’s #1 tendon without having to venture too far.
TENYA TIENDESITAS
Tenya Philippines opened their 9th branch in Tiendesitas. It is located at the ground floor of Building B, near the C-5 side.
Tenya is Japan’s #1 Tempura Tendon restaurant chain. It was started by Yoshio Iwashita in 1989. Tenya became popular because of the good quality tendon at affordable prices. It has since become the most successful Tendon chain not only in Japan, but in other countries, too.
The Tenya Tiendesitas branch is their biggest to date – it has a bright and airy ground floor that can accommodate 80 customers, and a second floor that can be closed for private functions.
THE FOOD
I ordered the All-Star Tempura Teishoku Set (P385), which includes black tiger prawn tempura, kani stick tempura, salmon tempura, squid tempura, and 2 vegetable tempura cakes that also contained shrimp. 😀
Tenya’s tempura stay light, crispy and not greasy even if you don’t eat it right away. Tenya uses a specifically formulated flour for their batter. They also use good quality seafood. My favorites are the salmon tempura and the black tiger prawn tempura, of course! I also liked the kani stick tempura.
Tenya’s signature dontare sauce uses an exclusive recipe made by a 200-year old boutique soy sauce factory in Japan.
I opted to try the cold udon since I always get the potato salad. The udon was really cold and chewy! The cold udon comes with sauce, with some sliced green onions and finely minced ginger you can add as you prefer. To eat, using chopsticks, you dip the udon into the sauce and then eat the now flavored udon.
For dessert, I had the Ningyo-Yaki Sundae (P135) – this is a bear-shaped pancake filled with either chocolate or caramel, with a scoop of ice cream, drizzled with chocolate sauce and garnished with caramel popcorn.

Another popular tendon is the sinful Ultimate Crab Tendon (with crab fat!), which I plan to try on my next visit! I hope it’s still available!
