Globe GoSurf 299 + Spotify

I register to Globe’s GoSurf 299. It gives me 700MB of mobile internet and 1GB of Spotify Premium good for 30 days. Getting Spotify Premium is really not a big deal for me, but it’s an important consideration for my sister. She listens to music that helps her concentrate on her work, and having instrumental music suddenly disturbed by Spotify ads was jarring and annoying. That’s why she also registered to GoSurf299. You also get to download music to listen to offline with Spotify Premium, among other perks.

P299 for 700MB + free Spotify premium + free 1GB streaming of Spotify music is very, very good value.

Just to emphasize – you get 700MB of mobile internet to use as you please, and you get an additional 1GB just for Spotify. This means, if you listen to Spotify using mobile internet, it doesn’t eat up any of your 700MB. Spotify uses a separate 1GB allocation.

You don’t know what Spotify is? It’s the internet’s gift to people who like to listen to music. Think of it as a library of songs, all online. All you need to do is to download the app on your gadget, be connected to the internet, and you can listen to any of the tracks available in that online music library. But wait, there’s more! Too lazy to build your own playlist? They have many, many playlists for you to choose from. There’s pop, jazz, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s. Playlists for partying, for workouts, for studying and concentrating, for relaxing, coffeehouse music, etc etc.. It’s really awesome. And it’s all free.

So back to GoSurf299. I surf when I’m stuck waiting – waiting in line, waiting for someone, at the mall, etc… I catch up on news, browse Pinterest, check my favorite Flickr groups, etc… When the home DSL wifi  is in heavy use, I surf on my gadget using GoSurf instead. As long as I don’t torrent, 700MB is enough for 30 days. As for speed, it’s not the fastest, kind of slow actually, but it’s acceptable in the “you get what you pay for” kind of way. Ordinary web pages load quickly. YouTube stutters though, even at a lowly 360p. For simple surfing, it’s fine.

What GoSurf has going for it, is that it’s cheap (700MB for P299) and you get Spotify freebies. And, oddly enough, some places have good Globe signal and very poor Smart signal – for example, in and around S&R Shaw and the Starbucks across from it.

What’s the best way to use your prepaid Globe Sim for GoSurf? Get yourself a GCash account. Put in P500-1,000, depending on your needs. Use GCash to load P300 to your Globe SIM*. You should also get a 10% discount on your GCash transaction. Register to GoSurf299 by texting GoSurf299 to 8888.

To check your GoSurf remaining MB balance, text Gosurf Status to 8888.

It’s best to only leave P1.00 on your Globe SIM. This way, if you accidentally leave your mobile internet on and you exceed 700MB, your internet is automatically cut off and you don’t incur unexpected prepaid balance deductions. No disappearing loads. Anyway, it’s easy to reload as long as your GCash account has funds. No need to run out to the suking autoload retailer. And GCash funds don’t expire.

*This Globe prepaid sim is just being used for internet. I have a long-term Globe number that I actually use for calls & texts, and that is the one that has the GCash account.
