How to Smell Fresh During Summer

Safeguard Antibacterial Soap

This is embarrassing, but when I started working at home, I noticed that in the summer, I would smell sweaty and my T-shirt would smell kulob even just an hour after I had a shower.

I thought something else had changed, maybe I was sick, or maybe it was my diet. I kept trying to figure out what it was until last year, when I realized that it only happened during summer.

I didn’t have this issue before because I worked in an air-conditioned office. But now that I am working at home with no air-con, and only relying on an electric fan and window breezes to keep me cool, the humid summer weather was making me sweat a lot. We do have aircons, but because electricity is way too expensive in this country, I only turn on the AC at night for sleep.

How to Smell Fresh During Summer

Then one day, I saw a Safeguard commercial on TV and it was like a light bulb moment! Why didn’t I think to try Safeguard again? It never occurred to me before because I thought of Safeguard as a children’s soap, meant to keep school children germ-free. I remember that was our soap back when I was still in school. Of course, when the kikay (beauty-conscious) phase kicked in, I had gravitated more towards whitening soaps and skin nourishing soaps, and I forgot all about Safeguard.

So I bought a bar of Safeguard to try, and I have been using Safeguard during summer ever since. It works! No sweaty smell if I use Safeguard. Some days I used my body washes and other beauty soaps, but I immediately noticed the difference in the afternoon when I would start to smell sweaty.

Safeguard + Exfoliating Gloves

Safeguard + Exfoliating Gloves to remove all the dead skin does the trick! I hate libag (dead skin cells). I can’t stand it. And during summer, I dunno, I produce so much libag, sometimes I exfoliate as much as every 2 days!

I just take a shower as normal. I lather the Safeguard soap on my exfoliating gloves and start scrubbing my wet skin, trying to scrub off all the dead skin cells. I try to be gentle on my skin while also trying to removing all the unwanted dead skin cells… a plus side of exfoliating is that it also always leaves my skin so smooth and glowing afterwards!

If you don’t have exfoliating gloves, you can use a loofah or a hand towel or a body brush to exfoliate. Exfoliating gloves are not that expensive (less than P100 for a pair) and they are widely available in most beauty shops like Watsons, Landmark, etc…

This combo has kept me smelling fresh during summer. I don’t smell sweaty at all even after a whole day of no aircon and doing some household chores. While it is normally a bit drying, I’m not worried about getting dry skin because my skin produces so much oil in summer I’m afraid some country might want to give it some freedom.

I generally don’t apply lotion during the day because sweat + lotion = slimy skin. I only apply moisturizers at night.

After summer, it’s safe for me to go back to using beauty soaps and body washes, but during summer, it’s always Safeguard for me.

So I hoarded a lot when I saw they were on promo during the recent S&R Members’ Treat sale. I have enough Safeguard to last me 1-2 years, hahaha!
