ALCATEL FLASH 2 Exclusively Available in LAZADA

Last week, I was invited to the launch of Alcatel’s new Flash 2 phone at the Raven Boutique Club in the BGC.

The phone is selling at an unbelievably value-for-money price of P6,190, and is selling exclusively on Lazada starting at 12nn on September 30.

It is a dual-SIM (micro-SIM), 5-inch phone with an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, running on Android Lollipop (5.1) and a 64-bit Octa-core 1.3 Ghz Cortex-A53 MT6753 processor, along with a 2GB LPDDR2 SDRAM. It uses a Mali-T720MP4 GPU for peak graphic performance.

It has an internal memory of 16 GB and a microSD card slot that can take up to 128 GB. It is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery, which is about the only negative thing for me since I prefer removable batteries for practical reasons.

The phone is pretty thin and has a nice, matte back cover and fits the hand nicely. It also has a dedicated key you can press to quickly bring up the camera.

CHECK OUT THE CAMERA, IT’S WHAT THIS PHONE IS ALL ABOUT

The really big selling point of this phone is the camera – this phone is built for “mobigraphy“. This was the first time I heard of the term, and apparently, it’s a portmanteau of “mobile” and “photography”. See? We learn something new everyday!

GOOD FOR LOW LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

The rear camera uses something called gSight. It uses a 13 Megapixel sensor that is is designed to deliver better image quality for any lighting situation, and only takes 0.3 seconds to focus (it uses Phase Detection Autofocus, which, I’ve heard, is far better than using old contrast autofocus).

It also has an ƒ/2.0 aperture that is bigger than even that of Apple’s iPhone 6 which stands at ƒ/2.2 aperture. This enables the Alcatel Flash 2 to capture even more light for every photo and works extraordinarily well even in low light conditions. For photography buffs, that means that it should be able to give you more depth of field. For us regular people, that just means you can do cool photography effects like having something in focus while having the background sort of blurry. In theory. I wasn’t able to try it out because all we had were some demo units that we could only play around with for a few minutes. I’m really interested to see if it will take better Instagram pictures than my old Note 2!

The Alcatel Flash 2 also uses RealTone flash – The RealTone flash consists of amber and white LED. This produces two tones of light that balances the skin tone and white balance, resulting in natural photos.

The camera also comes with an adjustable flash – when taking a picture, there is a slider where you can adjust the brightness of the flash! This is awesome! You know how a strong flash can wash out images? I’ve had this problem taking pictures of food at dimly-lit restaurants and have once tried taping a small piece of tissue to my flash to tone it down a little (it was a failure). I think this adjustable flash would come in extremely handy. I saw this feature on the front camera, but forgot to check if it was also included in the back camera.

SELFIE TO THE MAX

The front camera is a 5 Megapixel Autofocus camera WITH FLASH! This is the first I have heard of a phone with a flash for the front camera. It also has a wide angle of 84 degrees! You can take groupfies and fit as many people as you want!

PREMIUM FREEBIES

The Alcatel Flash 2 comes in a premium package that includes: Flash Flip Cover, Premium Gift Box, Flash 2 Handset, Battery Door, Stereo In-Ear Headset, LCD Screen Protector, USB 2.0 cable, 1Ah Charger.

Here’s a short video I did of the Alcatel Flash 2:

SUMMARY

The camera is really what sells this phone. But the other specs are not too shabby! Just a couple of years ago, phones with these specs – Octa-core, 2GB RAM, would sell for at least P20,000. I compared it with my 3-year old Note 2, and it beats my Note 2 in terms of the camera specs! I really wish that I could have played around with the camera more, but from what I learned about it, I think it’s amazing. AND ALL OF THAT FOR ONLY P6,190! I would really love to check out the Alcatel Flash 2‘s camera and see how much better photos it takes! I can’t believe it only costs P6,190 and I am seriously thinking about replacing my trusty old Note 2 with it.

The phone sells out fast, but keep checking back, it should be on sale again once stocks are available!
